Anniversary: Chernobyl

Today's anniversary of note is CHERNOBYL

20 years ago today, 10 time zones ahead of where I am, reactor number 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant suffered a meltdown. The resulting explosion and fire destroyed the reactor, and severely damaged the rest of the facility. A cloud of radioactive particles was expelled, leading to a range of effects across a wide geographic area.

Information about the Chernobyl disaster is widely available on the web, so I don't think I need to talk about this more. Suffice to say I find it a strange omen that I launch my blog on this anniversary.

This is the first site on Google when I searched for "chernobyl"
