Part I, Day 4: 080612

After a night in Dublin, Georgia, Matt and I headed a ways south to a river boat-ramp off a tertiary highway. No amphipods, sadly, but we found plenty of other critters, including beetles and corixids (water boat-men).

The boat-ramp at the Ocanee River, Georgia, looking upstream. It’s hard to see in this photo, but the water level appears to be at least a meter lower than normal.

The next site we visited was a haphazardously-chosen stop at a bridge over a creek on a secondary highway. Pendleton Creek yielded our first amphipods of this trip, a happy moment. Regretably, my words upon this momentous occasion were a mere “Dude, dude, dude! Check it out!”, rather than something more monumental.

Pendleton Creek, Georgia, looking upstream. I say "upstream", but the rate of flow was so low it was difficult to tell.

The rest of the day was pretty productive, too, so this was a good day. Much better than yesterday, anyways.

Tomorrow we plan to get down close to the coast of Georgia, and sample some of the slow, meandering rivers.

I think the moon landing would have been so much more awesome if Neil Armstrongs first words as he hopped down the ladder to the surface were "WEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
