Today we walked around Halfway Lake, a small lake that was formed from a bay of Lake Superior. According to the Parks Canada placards placed around the trail, Halfway Lake got its name by virtue of being half way between the village at Pic River and the shore of Lake Superior at Hattie Bay, and was formed by build-up of sand from the waves and currents of Lake Superior.
I discovered that my hiking boots may need a bit more breaking in, as the soles do not (yet) grip well on wet rock. I collected a few beetles and snails from the swampy areas near the lake, as well as some lovely beetles and even amphipods from Halfway Lake itself, at a couple of places around the shoreline.
I constructed and deployed a bottle trap, hanging in the shallow, vegetation-laden water at the West end of the lake. Tomorrow I’ll clear it, and I plan to visit the swampy stuff again.

After dinner, we walked to a nearby beach on Lake Superior for the sunset, which was pretty spectacular. Clouds at different altitudes were drifting by in different directions and at different speeds, presenting a slowly-changing skyscape of shifting colours as the sun sank towards the horizon.

Tomorrow I’ll clear my trap, collect other critters from the swampy and shallow parts of the area, and try to get some things from Lake Superior itself.

Damn, those are some nice sunset pics.
Yeah, I took many, but only put up a few. Superior is great for such things.
