Yesterday evening, my sister drove us down to Burlington's IKEA. This wine rack, named "GORM" by the psuedo-Swedes, does not appear on their website. Possibly because it's the kind of thing people would be more likely to put in the basement or garage than in the kitchen. I live in a basement; this is a good wine rack for me. I hope to rapidly fill it to its 72-bottle capacity.

Gormless no more

That's an excellent idea, fully in keeping with the "impoverished student living alone in a basement" theme.
I think hot-pink-and-lime-green highlights would really bring out the flourescent taupe, too.

I was thinking that an adult 32 french chest tube would work nicely for suctioning as it has holes higher up the tube, instead of just a tube with a hole at the bottom.

I don't know what that is, but I'll assume, based on the journal titles I got from googling the term, that this is a device much like a siphon that is used to remove fluid from a person's thoracic cavity prior to, during, or after surgery.
Holes on the length of the tube would not be useful. The siphoning effect would be broken when the wine level dropped below the upper holes, meaning one could not remove the last however much wine from the container.
However, using surgical equipment to make wine does have a certain appeal.
The holes don't go too far up. :)

During university, I had a dresser that was painted with light brown and bright orange latex paint. Wonderfully tacky. I still have it, much to the dismay of my wife.
So fluorescent taupe with pink and lime green highlights sounds like a great next step to me.
