Today's anniversary is the loss of the space-shuttle Challenger, and seven crewmembers aboard. Challenger was destroyed by an explosion on January 28, 1986. It's easy to find pictures of the explosion; I prefer to remember Challenger in flight, not in destruction.
Despite what I said the last time I did an anniversary, I'll expand these posts to include space travel as well as nuclear physics.
The above picture came from a NASA website. Wikipedia has a good discussion of the topic.

Wooo! link spam! (feel free to delete this post when you nuke the others)
Hey, what happened to image verification?
Image verification on other blogger blogs pisses me off, and never seems to work the first time. It probably has something to do with a session-time-out "feature".
Lots of stuff on blogger has this problem - it starts counting time from when you start doing something, like compose a post or compose a comment.
This is the first link spam I've had in a long time, so unless this is not a fluke and it starts getting bad soon, I'll just ignore it.
However, this does offer me a chance to test the comment-deletion system. I'll try to kill just one of the above.
