Friday Fish (Delayed): Tetraodon nigroviridis

Sorry about the delay. Last week, Blogger was lying about images. It would say "your image is now in your post" but no image. Oh well, as Carlo pointed out in a comment, it's not like I'm paying anything for this.

On to the fish: the green-and-black puffer. Apparently this species actually lives in freshwater. I had no idea any member of this family lived anywhere but marine coral reefs.


These guys are interesting to genomicists because the genome is pretty small - they apparently lack most of the big repeated elements commonly found in other genomes. PZ has a repost up discussing these guys and genome re-arrangments. The word "synteny" gets used and abused.
